Hot flashes can be described as having the feeling of intense heat accompanied by sweating and increased heartbeat which can last up to 30 minutes. This condition is mainly a symptom of menopause or pre-menopause. The intense heat is firstly experienced in the face or the chest and it continually spreads through the whole body. The hot flashes can cause the woman to pass out or even make it difficult to touch the face because it gets very hot.

Remedies for Hot Flashes

These hot flashes experienced mainly by women can be prevented or even controlled by following these tips:

1. Make it a point to avoid walking during a hot sunny day. Staying in a cooler area or indoors is the best way to avoid getting the hot flashes.

2. Ensure that you drink cold water preferably ice cold water as this will help to cool your bodily processes.

3. When you dress ensure that you dress appropriately or in layers as this will help regulate your body heat. It is advisable to wear cotton clothes.

4. It is also important that you avoid intake of alcohol, spicy foods and also caffeine, as such foods interfere with your body’s metabolism and may result in increasing hot flashes.

5. Exercising will also go a long way in helping to avoid or reduce the hot flashes. Walking, jogging and cycling help the body to burn fats, which if it is in excess affects the body’s mechanism of regulating heat.

6. Breathing is also important in helping to regulate your body temperature and metabolism. It is, thus important to practice deep breathe exercises, which involves holding your breathe for 30 seconds then exhaling.

7. If you have an air conditioner, ensure that you set it to a lower temperature so as to cool your surrounding environment.

8. When you go to bed, ensure that you wear cotton pajamas or sleeping gown and remain under the covers. If it happens that you experience a hot flash, remove the covers and wait till they get chilled before using them again.

9. Avoid wearing tight clothing and turtlenecks shirts and also avoid exercising 3 hours before going to bed.

10. It is advisable to take black cohosh which imitates estrogen and it assist in regulating the body’s temperature. Do not take the cohosh if you are pregnant or experiencing a menstrual flow.

11. Ensure that you have access or supply of ice cubes which are handy in cooling your body down.

Hot flashes are a common symptom of menopause and they eventually subside, once the menopause process is completed. The above are some of the remedies that can be used to help in treating hot flashes.
