Hangover Remedies
Hate the morning after a long night of partying and drinking? Hangover can not only create many physical problems, but also ruins an entire day with the aftermaths like headach, weakness, exhaustion, nausea and lack of concentration.
This is because alcohol is diuretic, which causes dehydration in the body. The chemicals called congeners, which are present in alcoholic drinks due to fermentation process, along with the affects of dehydration create a situation in our body that we know as hangover.
If you have a severe hangover, then it will take some time for it to completely subside. However, there are some remedies that you can try to control its symptoms. Let’s discuss these remedies:
1. Do not mix your drinks: Each alcoholic drink has different composition and affects your body in a different way. When taken within close intervals from each other, different alcohols can create a concoction of enzymes in your body that can result in severe hangover. So, stick to just one kind of drink for the entire evening.
2. Do not eat too much junk food: While drinking, avoid eating foods that are high in sugar or salt content. Since alcohol increases blood sugar levels, sweets will obviously aggravate your condition. Salt should also be avoided in high quantities because it will dehydrate your body further.
3. Don’t drink on empty stomach: Never start drinking when you are hungry. Always have a meal full of healthy carbohydrates and fiber before you drink. Carbohydrates slow down the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream, while fiber helps you in digestion and reduces nausea.
4. Drink lots of water: While suffering through a hangover, drink as much water as you can. Water will wash out the alcohol from the body and will also help you rehydrate. However, avoid sugar based drinks like sodas.
5. Take some Vitamin C: Alcohol also takes out Vitamin C from our body, which can intensify the symptoms of hangover. So, take this vitamin in any form, including supplement tablets.
6. Avoid caffeine: It’s a common misconception that coffee or energy drinks cure hangover because they have caffeine in them. On the contrary, caffeine can dehydrate the body further and worsen your condition. Thus, any caffeinated drinks should be avoided.
So, the next time you tire yourself partying with your friends, keep these remedies in mind. Remember, drinking responsibly is your duty. Don’t jeopardize your health and safety by drinking irresponsibly.
