In order to work perfectly and efficiently, our body is required to keep all of its functions in order. One of the most important functions of our body is the elimination of waste material from the body. A disruption in this function can cause a problem commonly known as constipation.

An extremely common digestive problem, constipation can affect people of all age groups. Constipation can cause a number of health problems, such as stomach cramps, stomach infection, acid reflux, indigestion etc.

Here, it must be mentioned that the definition of constipation can differ from person to person because for some people, absence of bowel movement for even one day can be called constipation, while for others, absence for bowel movement for even two to three days can be normal. It depends on how regular their bowel movement was before.

Constipation can be resolved with the help of some simple remedies. Here are some of the most popular remedies:

1. Increase fiber: Our body requires fiber to absorb the toxins and flush them out. Lack of fiber in our diet is one of the most common causes of constipation because it makes it difficult for our digestive system to push the toxic material out. To increase the fiber content, include whole wheat products, cereals and pulses along with raw vegetables and fruits in your diet.

2. Drink more water: Water is one of the key factors contributing to our digestive system. It helps move the waste material move forward through the intestines towards our colon. Water also makes it easier for the waste materials to pass through the cavities without any pain or discomfort. It also reduces acidity by flushing out excess acid from stomach. Therefore, drink at least 8 glasses of water or any other healthy liquid to reduce constipation.

3. Workout: Exercise stimulates our metabolism and helps body to process the food more quickly. As a result, it is able to flush out the waste material regularly. You can try any kind of concentrated exercise for this. Go for jogging, dance on your favorite song, do some aerobics or sweat it out in the gym, the choice is entirely yours.

4. Warm lemonade: To stimulate your colon in the morning, take a glass of warm water and add a table spoon of honey and juice of half a lemon. Drink this solution immediately. This remedy is extremely useful for those who find it difficult to get a proper bowel movement in morning.

5. Include fats in your diet: Your diet should not just contain fiber to fight constipation, but it should also have other nutrients, including fats. Studies have shown that people, who completely eliminate fats from their diet, are more likely to suffer from chronic constipation. Fats are also extremely important for our system and should not be ignored.

Constipation is not considered as an ailment in itself, but rather as the reason of other ailments. If you experience constipation for more than one or two months and it doesn’t subside even after trying all the dietary and lifestyle remedies, then see a doctor to find the main reason behind this problem.
