Acid Reflux Remedy
Acid reflux or acidity is one of the most common gastrointestinal conditions. It occurs due to an excess of acid in our stomach, which causes various symptoms like heartburn, bloating, stomach cramps etc. Acid reflux can be a chronic problem in some people, while others might experience it only once in a while.
Various factors like general health, eating habits, lifestyle etc. are generally responsible for repeated acid reflux among people. However, this condition can be easily managed with some natural remedies. Here are few acid reflux remedies that you may try at home:
a) Avoid heavy meal: A big meal with loads of fats, spices and red meat can increase the acid reflux. Our stomach produces natural acid to break down the food we eat. But a big meal slows down the digestion process and creates excess acid in the stomach. This acid can create symptoms like heartburn, bloating and indigestion.
b) Drink loads of water: If you feel that you are experiencing acid reflux more often than before, then increase the amount of liquids in your daily diet. Water dilutes the acid in our stomach and minimizes their affect on our body. It will also save you from dehydration, which increases the production of acid in the body.
c) Avoid dairy products: Dairy products increase the amount of acid producing bacteria in the stomach and hence, increase acid reflux. Therefore, people who often complain of acidity must avoid dairy products like milk, cheese, butter, ice-cream etc. or should at least limit their intake.
d) Eat almonds: Almonds are helpful in decreasing the bad affects of acid. For best results, take soaked almonds in breakfast every morning. Try to chew each of the almonds properly to get the most benefits.
e) Avoid caffeine and alcohol: Just like any other gastrointestinal problem, acid reflux is also related to our lifestyle and eating habits. Excessive intake of caffeine can increase the amount of acid in the stomach. Alcohol is another great culprit in this matter because it dehydrates the body and forces our stomach’s enzymes to create more acid. Thus, avoid these two elements as much as you can.
However, you can have fennel tea or green tea with ginger and lemon as these are soothing for the stomach and also help you relieve the discomfort caused by acid reflux.
f) Workout and stay active: Exercise stimulates our metabolism and helps us keep our system clean and healthy. An active lifestyle ensures that whatever we eat is properly digested and all the toxins are thrown out of our body as soon as possible. This is very important while managing acid reflux as it prevents indigestion and constipation; hence, preventing acid reflux.
g) Follow a Meal Plan: By “meal plan”, we mean eating at the right time and in right quantity. Eating at wrong hours of the day or eating too less or too much in one meal can aggravate the problem of acid reflux. So, as far as possible, never overeat and never starve yourself.
h) Take an antacid: If you experience symptoms of acid reflux, then take some kind of natuarl or medical antacid. These are easily available in liquid and tablet forms and don't have any side effects.
Many people take the problem of acid reflux very lightly. But this problem can be the root cause of many other medical problems too. Thus, acid reflux should be given due attention and treated with utmost care.
